Jersey agates??!! Various forms of chalcedony are found in the Mesozoic basalts of the New Jersey piedmont. Probably the best known occurrences are the stream deposits of carnelian from the Watchung and Warren area in Somerset County. While these ain't Lagunas, the banded agates on these pages represent some of the more unusual and overlooked mineral specimens from the Garden State.
ML301 AMETHYST on AGATE Montclair, Essex County, NJ Large chunk of basalt cavity filled with brown and grey agate bands topped with white, then amethyst, quartz. Collected in 1972.
Specimen size approx. 16 cm X 9 cm X 8.5 cm.
ML272 AGATE UBC Quarry, Great Notch, Passaic County, NJ Medium to large banded agate showing nice banding and color. Collected in 1988.

MLXX1 AGATE Road Cut, R. 6. Great Notch, Passaic County, NJ An uncut grey chalcedony nodule with pale amethyst from a local road cut with an old label.
